With a distinguished 37-year career in public service in Pinellas County, Al Braithwaite brings a wealth of experience and a unique perspective to Imagine That Performance. He served as the Finance Administrator, then got promoted to Director of Administrative Services, and ultimately finished as the City Manager for the City of Oldsmar. Al’s profound impact on public service is beautifully captured in his book, “Roller Coasters, Revolving Doors, and Reflux: Reflections on 37 Years of Public Service,” serving as a guide for those considering a career in public service and those already dedicated to the call. The book effectively highlights the need to serve the public interest for the common good.

Al’s journey began after completing his bachelor’s degree in Management/Finance at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. He started his career in teaching and coaching at Thom Howard Academy, a local private high school. Al joined the City of Madeira Beach staff in 1985 and began pursuing his master’s degree. While developing his local government career, Al explored different roles in various municipalities, including City of Clearwater and City of Largo, before settling in the City of Oldsmar. Throughout his career, he managed critical administrative and financial functions, gaining insights into the complexities of local governance.

Al’s commitment to integrity and genuine interaction with colleagues earned him respect throughout his career. His willingness to share knowledge and foster professional camaraderie endeared him to those around him.

During his career, Al Braithwaite actively participated in numerous professional organizations, contributing to the growth and development of the public service sector. He was a long-time member and former President (2012-2013) of the Suncoast Chapter of the Florida Government Finance Officers Association. Additionally, he served as President of the Suncoast Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) from 2019 to 2021. While active working in local government, Al Braithwaite had been a longtime member of both the International City/County Management Association (ICMA) and the Florida City/County Management Association (FCCMA).

Alongside his professional accomplishments, Al cherishes family life with his wife, Carla, in Oldsmar, where they are proud grandparents of three.

With his remarkable career experience, exemplary leadership skills, and a genuine passion for making a difference, Al Braithwaite is a valuable addition to the Imagine That Performance team.
