Part Time Executives


The municipality needs an executive skill set for a particular function, but can’t justify a permanent full time position. Perhaps it’s a temporary need for a particular skill. Maybe the coverage needed isn’t full-time. Maybe leadership is required for a finite project or transition.

Our experienced Senior Consultants have operations and management experience to help County Administrators and City Managers meet organizational goals and objectives. The part time executive will concentrate on the assignment and provide relief to internal staff to focus on their own key objectives. The community receives new programs without impacting other programs or perhaps earlier than expected.

Using a subcontracted executive is a great way to get executive expertise or bandwidth without risking an expensive hire.

To fill a short term executive need, many municipalities will “load up” on existing staff, perhaps creating a situation where a valued executive has more responsibilities than time to properly manage. It is also possible a great employee is accidentally situated with a role that is beyond the individual’s current leadership capacity. The local government must balance the desire to give opportunities to existing staff and keeping things in house with the actual bandwidth an executive needs to perform at a high level.

The part-time executive will also provide financial flexibility. Unlike a full time hire, the monthly expense can be modulated.
