Think Tank Member Profiled in The Gazette
Iowa City Deputy City Manager Redmond Jones II was recently profiled in The Gazette – Iowa’s independent, employee-owned source for local, state, and national news coverage.
I first met Redmond when he was in Florida as the City Manager of Groveland. I immediately appreciated his leadership style and vision for the community he was serving. It has been a pleasure having him participate in one of our City Manager and County Administrator Think Tanks that meets once a month. He is able to bring a diverse background having served in multiple states and leadership roles.
A short excerpt from the article:
Jones, a Cleveland native, worked as an intern for the city of Las Vegas in the early 1990s while pursuing his undergraduate degree at Cleveland State University.
He was among those knocking on doors in a predominantly Black neighborhood in West Las Vegas about the rebuilding of an area destroyed in riots that followed the police beating of Rodney King in Los Angeles.
The residents, he said, talked about the “distinct disparities” between the grocery store that was destroyed in a shopping mall and the same chain’s store in another part of the city. The store on the west side wasn’t kept up, and its prices were higher.
